Joseph

“But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”
Genesis 50:20.

I am fascinated when I read about the life of Joseph. He was patient, submissive, and waited on the Lord when bad things happened instead of trying to solve matters according to his own understanding. So many times in life we want everything to work out to our good but we don't want the evil thing thought against us to come to pass. Sometimes that may happen and life seem like a dream, but not very often.

One day Joseph was doing no harm to anyone and his brothers had the evil thought of wanting to kill him. While on the surface that may appear like one of the most evil thoughts against someone, God knew what was going on in this young man’s life. Many today would begin right there to blaspheme, curse, and question God but Joseph trusted him that can work all things according to his will.

Good comes from this by Joseph eventually being moved down to Egypt. While there he is faced with the temptation of another woman. But rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season he chose to resist the devil and flee to safety. Then it appears that evil has happened and he is put in prison. But if he had never had been put in prison he never would have interpreted the dreams. He never would have been mentioned to Pharaoh. He never would have been promoted to governor. And, he probably would have never seen his family again.

Sometimes I wonder about the things in my life. My mother was murdered by my step-dad in 1994. We were to leave him on a Friday but this event happened on the Tuesday before. I wasn’t saved then but my mother was. Did the devil want to destroy me and make me think that God hated me and my mother? Did God allow that to happen to get me where he wanted me? Did God send it or did he allow it? I don’t know. I do know this though: I was given a new family, started hearing fundamental preaching, trusted Jesus for salvation, told him I would preach, and have tried to share my testimony with others and hopefully help someone. All of which never would have happened if evil had not been thought against me and my mother.

“And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.” (Acts 7:9, 10). All things truly do work together for good to those who love God.
