Often I wonder how a mortal man
Can tell me he’ll live in heaven for eternity
All because of an immortal God
Who died long ago on a tree

Often I wonder how most saved men
Can hurt and harm one another
Especially those in the household of faith
Who condemn and criticize their own brothers

Often I wonder how a Christian lady
Can lift her hands and sing during worship
Then not very long after most of the church is gone
Be the source of so much strife and gossip

Often I wonder how a man of God
Can boast of his call to preach
When he never tries to share God’s word
In a hospital, on a doorstep, or in the streets

Often I wonder how the faults of others
Are always so easy for me to find
Yet when it comes to my own sins and failures
Why am I so easily blind

Truly, truly David has said
Man at his best is vanity
With God so lofty and man so lowly
Is there any hope for others
Is there any hope for me

Often I wonder how a sinner like me
Could live in heaven for eternity
Then they tell me of a sinless God
Who died on this earth for me

Now I know how a sinner like me
Will live in heaven for eternity
It’s only because of the sinless God
Who died long ago on a tree

Yes I’ll live with Jesus in heaven for eternity
Because my best friend died on a cross for me
