1 Peter 3:18–4:6 tells suffering people that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ declare his victory over every inch of the cosmos—even the darkest corners that we don’t see or fully understand.
Dr. Channing Crisler
In October 2022 (or maybe it was 2021, I’m getting old), Dr. Crisler from Anderson University graciously spoke to a combined adult Sunday School class one morning. I had been teaching through 1 Peter, and I had the opportunity to ask him if he would tag-team and teach a passage for me. Just so happens, it was one of those passages most skip over—thankfully I didn’t skip it. I just got to call in the pro 🙂
Earlier this week I was talking with a man at church about the importance of not leaving out the hard to understand parts of the Bible. They’re there for a reason. God inspired them to teach us something. Our part is to figure out what that is. And while it may not always be easy, I’m thankful for those who teach the word and go straight to Jesus. That morning in SS, Dr. Crisler explained the passage and the different interpretations. Then, like an artist making his final touch, he showed us what the key to the passage was—Jesus.
