Corner Bagel with Dr. Crisler

If your mind wanders when you pray, the problem is not that you can’t pray long enough. The problem may be that you’re trying to pray for too long. When Jesus prayed in John 17, it was a fairly lengthy prayer. When Jesus taught others how they can pray in Matthew 6 and Luke 11, it was a fairly short prayer. Perhaps that is Jesus’s way of showing us that our prayers, though short, are heard just as much as his… because, as our high priest, he is the one interceding on our behalf in the first place.

A few years ago a professor at my school told me, “The older I get, I pray shorter prayers more frequently.” I’m thankful for Christians who understand that the yoke and burden of Jesus is easy and light.
