Practice for Heaven

I wonder if the righteous desires in a Christian’s heart, no matter how obsessively he dreams about them and hopes for them, which seem to human eyes wouldn’t happen in a million years, I wonder if God puts those desires in our hearts, not so that we might see them happen in our lifetime but so that we’ll get to see them happen over and over again millions of years into eternity?

And if that is so, don’t worry so much about the opinions of those who can’t see past their next dollar, meal, ballgame, or vacation. Throw your whole being into prayers, books, hopes, dreams, people, ideas, stories, histories, victories, and mysteries that see more than the next 15 minutes in front of them—looking closer and deeper than others will, throw yourself into those things that have implications so great and so eternal that when others look and see nothing happening, you look and see God working. Remember, God’s not preparing you so that you’ll worship and serve him in this life only; God’s preparing you so that you‘ll forever worship and serve him in eternity.
