Is God using our lives?

Christian,

Since God sustained you last night and woke you this morning, he has a plan for you today. You might get to the end of the day and be able to see some dramatic way he used you. And then with gratitude, mingled with a hint of pride, you’ll thank him.

Better, he might use you today without you even realizing it. And then broken, you’ll ask him tonight to use tomorrow for his glory. Tomorrow comes and goes without a hint of God’s plan being fulfilled in your life. Then in humble dependence, you plead again, “God, don’t let me waste my life in meaningless trivialities. Please do something with my life, please!” And without any evidence of “being greatly used by God,” you live day in and day out as a humble and meek Christian who quietly goes about doing good and bearing witness to a life changed by the crucified and resurrected Savior to the few people you encounter.

For decades, without much proof of your prayers being heard, you ask God to use your life for his glory while you care less and less about the glory and praise of man. No fame. No accolades. Just a life lived by faith instead of sight.

Approaching death, you wonder if God used you at all. Then God says, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Surprised, you reply, “God, how can you say, ‘Well done,’ when every day I begged for you to forgive my failures and use my life despite my weakness?”…

Finally you’ll recognize: since God sustained you every night and woke you every morning, he had a plan for you every day. You arrive at the end of your life and you’ll able to see the dramatic way he used you. And then with gratitude, without a hint of pride, you’ll thank him—forever.
