Was in Greenville couple of weeks ago looking for a surprise for children’s camp I was sure a specialty store would have. They didn’t. Struck out. I felt bad driving that far, so thought I’d redeem the trip by letting the Apple Store check my 82% health battery on my laptop I’ve used nearly daily for 3 years. Hit the 80% mark and they said they’d replace the battery for free. I told them to please take care of it as if it were their own. Multiple times. Told them (from my time working there) I remember the repair room could be tight and to please be careful and don’t let anything happen to it…
They called this week and said they had weird news and good news. I joked, “You’re giving me a new laptop.” She said yes that I could come pick up my new computer. I said, “You’re joking?” She said no that something happened during repair and they’re replacing it.…
Picking it up, I asked if I could see my old one and bid my little buddy farewell. She brought out the poor thing. I saw its injury, held it for a moment, gave her the original box I had stored, and I bid it farewell.
AND, they didn’t replace it with another 16GB M1 Pro. They replaced it for free with a 24GB M4 Pro—8GB more ram and a processor 3 generations more powerful with more speed and more cores.
Moral of the story: I’m glad that specialty store was out of stock a couple of weeks ago. I hope my new tool makes Mike Hill proud.
